Meet Spirit, a 7 month old female Lab mix puppy who has recently been through a traumatic experience and is the latest recipient of assistance from the Ohio Pet Charities Coco’s Furry Friends Fund.
OPC received a call from our veterinary partners at Central Ohio Veterinary Emergency (COVE) advising they had a 15 pound puppy who should weigh 35 pounds that was in their clinic and in need of emergency care. The puppy had been removed from a neglectful home by the Delaware County Humane Society (DCHS) as part of a possible abuse case in their jurisdiction. Dr. Jimmy Reynolds at COVE administered antibiotics, deworming medications, fluids, and high calorie gels to get Spirit’s weight stable. She spent several days with COVE receiving round the clock small meals and special attention from the staff so she could become strong enough to move in with one of DCHS’s foster families.
Spirit is now on the road to recovery. She is currently living with her foster family where she has found toys to play with, nyla bones to chew, other dogs to start playing with, and a few cats to ignore. She is no longer eating too quickly or scavenging for food. OPC is so happy to have funded Spirit’s emergency care costs, enabling her to start on the path to finding her new, happy and healthy furever home.
